Setup Guide
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Go to
www.extron.com
for the complete user guide, installation instructions, and specications before connecting the
product to the power source.
The Extron DSC HD-12G A is a high performance HDMI to multi-format SDI scaler with dual mirrored outputs. It converts HDMI
video signals to 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and HD-SDI formats. It accepts and scales HDMI video resolutions from 480i to
4K @ 60 Hz. The user can select between multiple SDI output formats from 720p to 4K @ 60 Hz resolutions. Audio from the
HDMI or analog audio input is available on the SDI and analog audio outputs. Other features include genlock input with loop-out,
display logo images for on-screen messages and corporate branding facilitate integration in professional environments.
The DSC HD-12G A o󰀨ers a range of upstream switching e󰀨ects. These include a freeze and fade transition that fades out a nal
frozen frame of the previous input source as the newly detected source fades in, a cut through black transition, and a fade through
black transition. Selectable ll and follow modes are available to set the desired video aspect ratio. Fill mode provides full screen
output, while follow mode preserves the original signal
’
s aspect ratio.
The scaler can be controlled and congured via the Product Conguration Software (PCS), Simple Instruction Set (SIS)
commands, and the internal web pages via a control system or PC connected to the USB-C Cong port or the LAN port. It can also
be congured using the On-Screen Display (OSD), accessed via front panel buttons.
This setup guide provides step-by-step instructions for an experienced user to set up and congure a DSC HD-12G A. It covers
how to perform basic operations using the front panel controls and Simple Instruction Set™ (SIS™) commands.
NOTE:
For full installation, conguration, menus, connector wiring, and operation details, see the

Installation Steps
1. Disconnect power.
Turn o󰀨 or disconnect all equipment power sources.
2. Mount the unit.
(Optional) Mount the DSC HD-12G A either in a rack using shelf mounting brackets or under furniture using
furniture mounting brackets. A false face plate (RFF 052) can be tted on top of the low prole DSC if desired. Follow the
directions provided with the mounting kit.
3. Connect the input.
Connect an HDMI video source to the HDMI input connector (see gure 1
,
B
). Secure the HDMI device
to the connector with a provided LockIt
®
Plus bracket (see ).
Installing the LockIt Plus Bracket
on page 2
4. Connect output.
Connect one or two displays to one or both 12G/6G/3G/HD SDI dual mirrored output connectors (
F
)
for SDI
output (includes embedded audio).

5. Connect a genlock sync device
— (Optional) Attach an external sync device to the IN (left) GENLOCK connector (see
gure1
,
D
on page 1). Connect any downstream device to be synchronized by genlocking it to the LOOP OUT (right)
GENLOCK connector.
Optional: Select one of three available options to enable or disable genlock/AFL:
•
O󰀨
— Disables genlock/AFL (default)
•
Input AFL
— Locks the output to the vertical sync of the input (valid only if the frame rate is an SMPTE video standard
and the output frame rate has been selected to be the same).
•
SDI genlock
— The genlock input (with loop-out) is used for sync reference. The genlock input supports bi-level or
tri-level sync.
6. Connect analog audio input.
Connect analog audio from the source to the captive screw audio IN connector (
E
)
.
NOTE:
To embed analog audio from this input, rst set it up using the (OSD) (see page 3) or
on-screen displaySIS
commands
(starting on page 5).

8. Connect a control device.
For remote control via SIS commands or the Extron PCS or Toolbelt control software:
•
Ethernet
— For remote control, connect the unit to a network via the RJ-45 LAN connector (
G
), enabling conguration
of the DSC via SIS commands, PCS or Toolbelt software, or the DSC HD-12G web page. The default IP address is
192.168.254.254
, but DHCP can be enabled via SIS or the OSD menu.
•
USB
— The front panel USB-C port is used for remote control of the scaler, similar to the rear panel LAN port. Connect a
host computer to the front panel USB-C port (see
gure5
,
B
) for conguration using PCS, the embedded web pages, or
SIS commands via an SSH client and IP address 203.0.113.22, port 22023.
NOTE:
The factory configured passwords for all accounts on this scaler have been set to the serial number. In the event
of a complete system reset, the password converts to the default, which is extron. New passwords must be configured
to secure the device.
9. IEC power connector
— Connect the supplied US standard IEC power cord between this connector (see
gure1
,
A
) and a
110-220 V 50-60 Hz AC power source
.
Installing the LockIt Plus Bracket
The Extron LockIt Plus lacing bracket secures a standard HDMI cable to most devices. Follow these instructions to secure the
HDMI connectors to the unit with the provided LockIt Plus lacing brackets:

Setup Guide
4
—
Do not overtighten the screw.
Tighten the connector mounting screw
5
Secure the cable
— Tighten the tie wrap around the connector and bracket, and cut off the extra length.
ATTENTION:
•
Do not overtighten the HDMI connection mounting screw. The shield to which it is fastened is very thin and can easily be
stripped.
•
Ne serrez pas trop la vis de montage du connecteur HDMI. Le blindage auquel elle est attachée est très fin et peut
facilement être dénudé.
