DSC 12G-HD A Scaler • Setup Guide
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Go to www.extron.com for the complete user guide, installation instructions, and specications before connecting the
product to the power source.
The Extron DSC 12G-HD A is a high-performance multi-format SDI to HDMI scaler. It converts 12G-SDI, 6G-SDI, 3G-SDI, and
HD-SDI to HDMI. It accepts and scales SMPTE video resolutions from 720p to 4K @ 60 Hz. The user can select between multiple
output rates up to 4K @ 60 Hz or utilize a custom output resolution. Audio from the SDI or analog audio input is available on the
HDMI and analog audio outputs. An SDI input loop-out, motion-adaptive deinterlacing for 1080i, Deep Color processing, seamless
upstream transitions, and the ability to display logo images for on-screen messages and corporate branding facilitate integration in
professional environments.
The DSC 12G-HD A oers a range of upstream switching eects. These include a freeze and fade transition that fades out a nal
frozen frame of the previous input source as the newly detected source fades in, a cut through black transition, and a fade through
black transition. Selectable ll and follow modes are available to set the desired video aspect ratio.
The scaler can be controlled and congured via the Product Conguration Software (PCS), Simple Instruction Set™ (SIS™)
commands, and the internal web pages via a control system or PC connected to the USB-C Cong port or the LAN port. It can also
be congured using the On-Screen Display (OSD), accessed via front panel buttons.
This setup guide provides step-by-step instructions for an experienced user to set up and congure a DSC 12G-HD A. It covers
how to perform basic operations using the front panel controls and SIS commands.
NOTE:For full installation, conguration, menus, connector wiring, and operation details, see the DSC 12G-HD A and
DSC HD-12G A User Guide, available at www.extron.com.

Installation Steps
1. Disconnect power. Turn o or disconnect all equipment power sources.
2. Mount the unit. (Optional) Mount the DSC 12G-HD A either in a rack using shelf mounting brackets or under furniture using
furniture mounting brackets. A false face plate (RFF 052) can be tted on top of the low prole DSC if desired. Follow the
directions provided with the mounting kit.
3. Connect the input. Connect an SDI video source to the 12G/6G/3G/HD-SDI input IN connector (see gure 1,
B
). Connect a
local monitor or other SDI device to the SDI LOOP OUT connector (
C
).
4. Connect the output. Connect an HDMI display device to the HDMI output connector (
F
) for HDMI output (includes
embedded analog audio). Secure the HDMI device to the connector with a provided LockIt
®
Plus bracket (see Installing the
LockIt Plus Bracket on page 2).

7. Connect a control device. For remote control via SIS commands or the Extron PCS or Toolbelt control software:
• Ethernet — For remote control, connect the unit to a network via the RJ-45 LAN/PoE connector (
G
), enabling
conguration of the DSC via SIS commands, PCS or Toolbelt software, or the DSC 12G-HD A web pages. The default IP
address is 192.168.254.254, but DHCP can be enabled via SIS or the OSD menu.
• USB — The front panel USB-C port is used for remote control of the scaler, similar to the rear panel LAN port. Connect a
host computer to the front panel USB-C port (see gure5,
B
) for conguration using PCS, the embedded web pages, or
SIS commands via an SSH client and IP address 203.0.113.22, port 22023.
NOTE:The factory configured passwords for all accounts on this scaler have been set to the serial number.
In the event of a complete system reset, the password converts to the default, which is extron. New
passwords must be configured to secure the device.
8. IEC power connector — Connect the supplied US standard IEC power cord between this connector (see gure1,
A
) and a
110-220 V 50-60 Hz AC power source.
Installing the LockIt Plus Bracket
The Extron LockIt Plus lacing bracket secures a standard HDMI cable to most devices. Follow these instructions to secure the
HDMI connectors to the unit with the provided LockIt Plus lacing brackets:

Figure 4. LockIt Plus Installation
1
Plug in the cable — Connect the HDMI cable to the port.
2
Loosen the screw — Slightly loosen the mounting screw (do not remove it).
3
Attach the bracket — Place the bracket over the screw.
4
Tighten the connector mounting screw — Do not overtighten the screw.
5
Secure the cable — Tighten the tie wrap around the connector and bracket, and cut off the extra length.
ATTENTION:
• Do not overtighten the HDMI connection mounting screw. The shield to which it is fastened is very thin and can easily be
stripped.
• Ne serrez pas trop la vis de montage du connecteur HDMI. Le blindage auquel elle est attachée est très fin et peut
facilement être dénudé.

User Guide): To lock (enable executive mode), enter 1X. To unlock (disable executive mode), enter 0X.
ConguringtheDSC12G-HDA
The DSC 12G-HD A can be congured through a host connected to the USB-C port or the LAN port (see step 7 on page 2 for the
LAN port default settings), using PCS (available at www.extron.com), the internal web pages, or SIS commands (see Basic SIS
Commands starting on page 5 for a selection of setup commands, or see the DSC 12G-HD A and DSC HD-12G A User Guide
for a complete list of the commands). The DSC can also be congured using the OSD menu system (described below)). The DSC
