PG9872/PG8872/PG4872 Overview

ThePGx872is asmartwirelessceiling PIRpresence/securitydetector

(selectedmode)thatcreatesa 360°coveragearea todetectthemove-

ment ofintrudersinindoor areas.

Thedetectorhas thefollowingfeatures:

lPresencedetection mode -active 15 minutes afterinstallation

(power-up)andthenonly when thepanel is in Disarm mode.

lSecurity detection mode- operatesas anormal motion security

detector.

lBuilt-inlinkqualityindicatorseliminate the need for theinstaller to

physicallyapproach thecontrol paneland reduceinstallationtime.

lThedevicesupportstemperatureand lightlevel reportsto com-

patible alarmsystemsthat supporttemperatureandlight sensors.

lTamper protection.

lPowerG two-way Frequency Hopping Spread SpectrumFHSS-

Insertingorreplacingthe battery

To insert thebattery, completethe following steps.

1.To separatethedetector fromthemounting bracket, rotate the

bracketanticlockwiseandpull it from thedetector.

2.Insertthe battery while observingpolarity.

NOTE: If thebatteryisalready installed, pullthe isolation strip

thatprotrudes fromthe backofthe detector.

3.Align the brackettabswith the detector slots and rotate the detector

clockwisetoverify that it is securely attached.

NOTE: Ifascrewisusedto securethe detectortothe bracket(see

Figure3), openthescrewcover, andremovethescrew. Toseparate

the detectorfromthemountingbracket,ensurethe screwcover is

fullyopenorfully closed,and rotatethedetectoranticlockwise.

Replacethe batteryensuringpolarityisobserved.Replace the

detector andsecuretothebracketwiththescrew.

NOTE: Itisrecommended to wait about1 minuteafterbattery

removal be foreinsertingthenewbattery.

Caution! Riskof explosionifbatteryisreplaced byan incorrect type.

Dispose ofused batteriesaccordingto themanufacturer'sinstructions

and accordingto localrules andregulations.

Enrollment

Refertothepanel installationmanua l forthee nrollmentprocedure.

A general descriptionofthe procedureisprovidedinthe following

flow chart:

1See theinstallationmanualforthe alarm systemthatthe

device isbeing enrolled on toensure thatthe propersteps

are used.

2Enter theDevice Enrollment optionthroughthe specified

methodandselectthe appropriateoptiontoaddthe new

device.

3Enrollthe deviceby eitherinsertingthe batterytopower on

thedeviceuntil theenrollmentisdetected,orbyenteringthe

Device ID.

Pulltheenrollmenttab orinsertthebatteryto powerup the

deviceandbegin theauto-enrollmentprocess.

NOTE: ID:XXX-XXXXYou canalso enter(thenumber of

the devicethatisprinted onthe label),if thedevicedoes not

automatically enroll.

4Selectthe desiredZone Number.

5Configureanydevice parametersthatare required.

6Mount andtest thedetector.SeeWalk testing/ localdia-

gnostic testingforinformation ontestingthedevice.In addi-

tion,seethe alarmsysteminstallationmanualthatthe device

isenrolledonforothertestproceduresthat arerequired.

NOTE: Ifthedetectoris alreadyenrolled,youcan configurethe

detectorparametersbyprogrammingthe system.See thealarmsystem

installationmanualformore informationaboutdevice parameters.

NOTE: Whenenrolling the PGx972 detectortowireless panels

(WP80XX)with version 19.4orlower, thedetectorwillbeenrolled as

motiondetector, ID120-xxxx,andlabelled ‘Motion Sens’inthe panel.

Installation tips

Usethe followingasa guide forlocatingasuitablemountinglocation.

1.Keepawayfrom heatsources.

2.Donot exposetoairdrafts.

3.Donot install outdoors.

4.Avoiddirect sunshine.

5.Do notinstallnear high voltageelectricallines.

6.Donot install behind partitions.

7.Mount onasolidstablesurface.

WARNING! Donot partially orcompletelyobscurethedetector’s

field ofview.

WARNING!TocomplywithFCC andISEDCanadaRF exposurecom-

pliancerequirements,the PIRdetectorshould be located at a distance

ofatleast20 cm fromall personsduringnormal operation.Theanten-

nasusedfor thisproductmustnotbeco-locatedor operatedincon-

junction withanyotherantennaortransmitter.

NOTE: ThePGx872 W irelessceilingPIRpresence/security detector

shall beinstalledandusedwithinanenvironmentthat providesthe

pollutiondegree max2 and overvoltagescategoryIIin NON

HAZARDOUSLOCATIONS.Theequipmentisdesigned tobe

installedonly byqualifiedservice persons.

NOTE: PGx872shallbeinstalledin accordancewiththeStandardfor

Installation and Classificationof ResidentialBurglarAlarm Systems,

UL 1641.

Walktesting/localdiagnostic testing

Beforepermanentlymountingany wirelessdevice,temporarily mount

the deviceand performa walktest. Perform awalktestofthe cov-

eragearea atleastonceaweektoensure thatthe detectorisworking

correctly.

After insertingthebattery orclosing thebracket,thedetectorwillauto-

matically enter a stabilityperiodwherethe LED flashes REDfor 90

seconds.Walktest thecoveragearea; theLED lightsred eachtime

your motionisdetectedfollowedby 3LEDblinks.Thecolorof the 3

LED blinksindicatethe received signal strength.In walk-test mode,

regardlessoftheLEDSelectionstatus,theLED lightsuponevery

motion detection.After15minutesthedetectorautomaticallyenters

normal mode.

Thefollowingtableindicates the received signal strength.

IMPORTANT! Only GOODorSTRONGsignal strengthsareaccept-

NOTE: ForUL/ULC installations,onlySTRONGsignalleve lsare

acceptable.Afterinstallation verify the productfunctionalityincon-

junctionwiththecompatibledevices HSM2HOST9,HS2LCDRF(P) 9,

HS2ICNRF(P)9, PG9920, WS900-19,andWS900-29.

NOTE: Fordetailed Placement instructionsrefertothe control panel

reference manual.

Walk-testthe coveragearea bywalkingacrossthefar end ofthe cov-

eragepattern inboth directions.The red LEDlights eachtimeyour

motion isdetected followedbyasteadyLEDsignalstrengthindication.

Mountingthe device

1.Mark and drilltwo holesinthemounting surface.Ifyouinstall

tamper protectionon the detector, mark and drillonehole for the

tamper protection andoneholefor oneofthe other available slots.

2.Fastenthe brackettothemountingsurface withthe twoscrews.

3.Align the brackettabswith the detector slots and rotate the detector

clockwise.Verify that it is securelyattached.

4.Fastenthe detectortothe bracketwiththescrew.
