Informationen zum Vorbild
Die Schnellzuglokomotiven der BR 18.1 ( ehem.
württ. C ) gehörten mit der ihr verwandten
Loks der BR 18.4 ( ehem. bayr. S 3/6 ) zu den
schönsten Pacific-Maschinen in Deutschland.
Wegen des hügeligen Geländes in Württem-
berg entschieden sich die Konstrukteure für
einen Treibraddurchmesser von nur 1800 mm.
Dadurch konnte die Lok trotz ihrer Vierzylinder-
Verbundmaschine recht klein gehalten werden.
Das Design der „schönen Württembergerin“ war
schlicht und elegant zugleich, die Maschinen
galten als leistungsfähig und sparsam und be-
wältigten viele Steigungen ohne Nachschub. Bei
einer Leistung von 1840 PS erreichte sie eine
Höchtgeschwindigkeit von 120 km/h.
Die Deutsche Bundesbahn verfügte Ende
1950 noch über 23 Lokomotiven der BR 18.1.
Ulm und Heilbronn waren die beiden letzten
Betriebswerke, die die BR 18.1 vorwiegend vor
leichten Schnell- und Eilzügen einsetzte.
Das vorliegende Modell der 18 115 war ab-
wechselnd in Heilbronn und Ulm stationiert. Ulm
wurde schließlich für nahezu alle BR 18.1 - auch
für die 18 115 - das Stationierungs-Bw bis zur
Ausmusterung im Jahr 1954.
Information about the Prototype
The class 18.1 (former Württemberg class C)
express locomotives along with the class 18.4
(former Bavarian class S 3/6) locomotives related
to it were among the most beautiful Pacific
locomotives in Germany. The designers decided
on a driving wheel diameter of only 1,800 mm /
70-7/8“ due to the hilly terrain in Württemberg.
This meant that the locomotive could be kept
rather small despite its four-cylinder layout. The
design for the „Beautiful Lady of Württemberg“
was both simple and elegant; these units were
considered to be powerful, economical, and they
master many grades without pusher service. With
a performance of 1,840 horsepower, they reached
a maximum speed of120 km/h / 75 mph.
At the end of 1950, the German Federal Railroad
still had over 23 class 18.1 locomotives on the
roster. Ulm and Heilbronn were the last two serv
-
ice districts that used the class 18.1 chiefly for
light express and fast passenger trains.
The model of road number 18 115 before you
was stationed variously in Heilbronn and Ulm.
Ulm was the final service district for almost all
of the class 18.1 locomotives – also for road
number 18 115 – until they were retired in 1954.
