The Activity Meter accessory will keep track of and store the number steps walked at a normal pace. You
must then periodically transfer this information to the Personal Trainer: Walking Game Card. This process
is described on the next page and in the Instruction Booklet for the Game Card.
In the following cases, the meter may not be able to accurately record information:
The meter can only store a limited amount of information as follows:
When the amount of data stored is exceeded, old data will be overwritten, starting with the oldest. It is
recommended that you transfer data to the Game Card every day.
• Deleted data is not shown on the Game Card.
• A single meter can only record the details of one individual.
When walking in a crowd or other situation where you stop and start repeatedly. The meter adjusts for
this by only recording periods of walking lasting 10 seconds or more.
If the meter is loose inside a bag or held or attached loosely by a hanging strap.
If the movement is different from walking, such as jogging, running, or other vigorous activity.
If the movement is softened by shuffling, walking barefoot, or wearing slippers or sandals.
If the meter is positioned horizontally.
If the meter is used in a very humid environment.

Before attaching the battery cover or the clip connector, or if you have removed the water resistant seal,
always make sure the seal is correctly aligned before reassembling the meter (see page 3).
When removing and replacing the battery cover or clip connector, make sure the screw is securely
tightened. This will help prevent these components from becoming detached later, and it will assure
good battery contact with the battery terminals.
The internal clock of the meter is reset when the battery cover or clip connector are removed.

Using a small “+” style screwdriver, loosen the screw on the back of the Activity Meter accessory and
remove the battery cover. Keep the battery cover in a safe place for later use.
Replace the battery cover with the clip connector. Make sure the fingers on one edge of the clip
connector are correctly aligned with the slots in the meter.
Tighten the screw, making sure the clip connector is securely fastened.

Flashing red means communication is in progress with the
Game Card.
Gently shake the meter to check your progress with
Personal Trainer: Walking.
One red flash periodically means you have not yet
achieved the number of steps that have been set as a goal.
Two green flashes means you have exceeded the number
of steps that have been set as a goal.
The level of battery charge cannot be checked, however if the Indicator LED does not flash when the
meter is shaken, the battery is dead and should be replaced. See page 11 for more information.
Personal Trainer: Walking includes a Game Card, two Activity Meter accessories (batteries included), and
two replacement clip connectors. Below is a description of the Activity Meter accessory and its components.

How to Wear
You can carry the Activity Meter accessory in a pocket or bag, as shown below. You can also attach it
with a strap (sold separately).
NOTE: If using a strap, the meter should be tucked in a pocket or other location where it doesn’t hang
loosely. This will help prevent inaccurate measurement of steps.
IMPORTANT: Do not carry the meter in your back pocket. Sitting on it could result in
injury to the user or damage to the meter.
The optional clip connector can be used to attach it to a belt, shoulder strap, or your dog’s collar, as
shown below. See the next page, , for more information.Attaching the Clip Connector
NOTE: When using the clip connector to attach to a belt or collar, make sure the fit is not too tight or to

Before Use
Remove the plastic tab to allow the battery to touch the battery contacts and turn
the power on. The Activity Meter accessory does not have a power switch and
will turn on and off automatically.
NOTE: If the plastic tab doesn’t completely pull out of the battery compartment
the meter may not operate. If the meter does not work after pulling the plastic

Troubleshooting
If you are having problems using the Activity Meter accessory and calculating your steps walked or your life
rhythm, review both this manual and the Personal Trainer: Walking Instruction booklet, and the following tips
before seeking assistance:
Warranty and Service Information
The level of battery charge cannot be checked, however if the Indicator LED does not flash when the
Activity Meter accessory is shaken, the battery is dead and should be replaced.
NOTE: If the battery in the meter is getting low on power, a battery replacement warning may appear on
the Nintendo DS screen when using infrared communication between the Personal Trainer: Walking
Game Card and the meter, as shown below. If this happens, replace the battery in the meter as soon as
possible.
When replacing the battery, the internal clock of the meter will be reset. Connect it
to the Personal Trainer: Walking Game Card to correct the clock.
Battery Duration
Battery life will vary depending on conditions of usage. The battery should last approximately 6 months
under these conditions:
• Walking 10,000 steps per day
• One infrared data communication per day
• Average temperature of 25˚ Celsius (75˚ Fahrenheit)
Follow these instructions to replace the battery if the Indicator LED doesn’t flash when the meter is moved,
or if you see a low battery warning on the Nintendo DS screen during infrared communication.
• The amount of data that can be saved to the (minute-by-minute data) changes accordingmeter
to the amount of time walked. If you walked for an extremely long time, you may be unable to save all
of your weekly data. (Up to 12 hours of walking a day can be saved as weekly data.)

Make sure you have registered as a player with the Personal Trainer: Walking Registering a Game Card. See
Player in the Instruction Booklet included with the Game Card for how to register.
Make sure you have transferred information to the Game Card. See Measure Your Life Rhythm! in the
Instruction Booklet included with the Game Card for how to transfer information.
Review in the Instruction Booklet included with the Game Card to make sure you have set up Getting Started
the program correctly.
Make sure the battery in the meter is working. The Indicator LED should flash when you gently shake the meter.
If it doesn’t flash, remove the battery cover and the battery and check to see if anything is blocking the battery
terminals. Replace the battery and orient it so the plus (+) side is visible and faces out. Replace the battery if
necessary.
Make sure the meter is attached and used properly. It may not accurately measure steps if it is horizontal,
attached loosely, you are walking unevenly, such as in a crowd, or if it is very humid.
If you can’t transfer information from the meter to the Game Card, make sure the distance is correct between
the meter and the Game Card and they are oriented correctly (see page 10). Make sure nothing is in between
the meter and the Game Card. If the infrared sensor lenses are dirty, clean them with a soft cloth.
If you accidentally wash the Activity Meter accessory with your clothes or it gets
submerged in water, follow these instructions:
1. Remove the battery cover (or clip connector) and the battery.
2. Dry all of the components, including the battery compartment, with a soft cloth.
3. Let all components completely air dry. Do not use heat or other artificial means to dry the meter.
4. Reassemble the meter and check its operation. NOTE: It may be necessary to replace the
battery.
If this accessory still does not operate correctly after trying the troubleshooting steps, visit support.nintendo.com for
assistance and additional troubleshooting and repair options or call 1-800-255-3700.
