ENGLISH
Intended use The Philips Avent Nipple Shield is intended
to cover and protect the nipples of lactating women
to support breastfeeding. The device is intended for
a single user.
Indications for use The Philips Avent Nipple Shield is
indicated for use when the mother has sore, sensitive,
cracked nipples or suers from nipple pain. It is also
indicated to help the baby develop better latch-on
behavior in case of oral anomalies or when the mother
has at/inverted nipples. Moreover, it can be used to
alleviate milk supply diculties when the baby is not
transferring the milk well, has an uncommon sucking
technique (i.e. weak sucking, small/preterm babies) or to
help the baby in coping with milk ow.
Contraindications There are no contraindications.
Side eects When using the device, undesirable
side eects that may occur are mastitis, cessation of
breastfeeding, infant thrush and poor infant weight gain.
If you or your baby experience any of these symptoms,
contact a healthcare professional or breastfeeding
specialist.
Important safety information
Read this important information carefully before you use
the product and save it for future reference.
Warning to avoid choking and swallowing
-Never leave the nipple shield and the hygiene case
unattended and keep out of reach of children.
-Inspect before each use. Throw away at the rst signs
of damage or weakness or after 2 months of usage.
Warning to avoid contamination and to ensure
hygiene
-Follow the instructions described in the Cleaning and
Disinfection sections.
Recommendations
-Use the product only in case of breastfeeding
problems as described in the Indications For Use.
-Recommended to be used with advice from health
care professional. If problems or pain occur, consult
your lactation consultant or physician.

-Any serious incident that has occurred in relation to
this device should be reported to Philips via
www.philips.com/support and to the competent
authority of the Member State in which the user and/

Before usage
Step 1 - Cleaning
Warning
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents or aggressive
chemicals or substances when you clean the nipple
shield. Clean the nipple shield and hygiene case before
rst use and immediately after each use.
Manual cleaning
1 Rinse with drinking-quality water for 10-15 seconds.
2 Wash in warm, drinking-quality water (approx. 35 °C)
with washing-up liquid, preferably without articial
fragrances or coloring.
3 Rinse with drinking-quality water for 10-15 seconds.
4 Dry with a clean cloth or leave to dry on a clean
surface.
Dishwasher cleaning
1 Place on top rack of the dishwasher.
2 Run standard program with common household
dishwasher detergent.
3 If not fully dry after dishwasher program, dry with a
clean cloth or leave to dry on a clean surface.
Step 2 - Disinfection
Warning
Disinfect before rst use and at least once a day. Clean
before disinfection.
Be careful: After disinfection, the nipple shields may be
very hot. The hygiene case and the water remaining in
the case may still be hot. To prevent burns, only use after
cooling down for 5 minutes.
Warnings to avoid contamination and to ensure
hygiene
If you use the hygiene case for disinfection:
-Clean the case before rst use.
-Use the correct water level, microwave power and
time. Not doing so can lead to reduced disinfection
and can damage the case or nipple shields.
-Only use the case provided.
Boiling
1 Clean as described under ‚Cleaning‘.
2 Boil the nipple shields in drinking-quality water for
5 minutes.
3 Leave to dry on a clean surface.
Microwave Alternatively, use only the hygiene case
provided according to the instructions below.
1 Clean the hygiene case (as described under
‘Cleaning’).
2 Add 25 ml of drinking-quality water to the case, up to
the indicated line (Fig. 1).
3 Place the nipple shield(s) in the hygiene case and
securely close the lid (Fig. 2).
4 Place the lled hygiene case in the microwave for
3 minutes at 750-1000 W (Fig. 3).
5 Let the hygiene case cool down for 5 minutes (Fig.4).
6 Drain water from the hygiene case (Fig.5).
7 Dry the nipple shield(s) with a clean cloth or leave to
dry on a clean surface.
Usage
Warning
Wash your hands and breasts thoroughly with soap and
water before you touch the nipple shields to prevent
contamination.
Applying the product Follow the instructions below
when placing the device on your breast:
1 Remove the cleaned and disinfected nipple shield
from the hygiene case.
2 Place drinking-quality water or breast milk on the
skin-facing side of the brim to help the shield stick to
your skin (Fig. 6).
3 Hold the shield at the base of the nipple area and
press the nipple cavity partially inside out, so that it
becomes half way inverted (Fig. 7).
4 Rotate the shield so that the baby can have nose and
chin contact with your breast skin (Fig. 8).
5 Center the shield over your nipple and slightly stretch
the wings of the shield as you stick the product onto
your breast (Fig. 9).
6 With the shield applied, you can now breastfeed as
normal.
Storing Store the clean nipple shield(s) in the hygiene
case or in a dry, clean container. Storing the nipple
shield(s) in an unclean or wet container could cause
contamination.
Disposal According to local regulations.

This symbol indicates to ll the hygiene case

This symbol indicates to wait 5 minutes before
taking the hygiene case out of the microwave.
The 5 inside this symbol is the recycling code
used to identify the material from which the
hygiene case is made, which is polypropylene
(PP), to facilitate recycling or other reprocessing.
The Green Dot (‚Der Grüne Punkt‘ in German)
is the license symbol of a European network
of industry-funded systems for recycling the
packaging materials of consumer goods.

Beoogd gebruik De Philips Avent-tepelbeschermer
bedekt en beschermt de tepels van vrouwen bij het
geven van borstvoeding. Het apparaat is bedoeld voor
een enkele gebruiker.
Indicaties voor gebruik De Philips Avent-
tepelbeschermer is geïndiceerd voor gebruik als de
moeder pijnlijke of gevoelige tepels heeft of last heeft
van tepelkloven. De tepelbeschermer is ook bedoeld
om borstvoeding gemakkelijker te maken bij mondelinge
afwijkingen van de baby of als de moeder platte/
omgekeerde tepels heeft. Het kan ook helpen problemen
met de melktoevoer te verhelpen wanneer de baby niet
goed drinkt of een ongebruikelijke drinktechniek heeft
(bijv. als de baby weinig zuigkracht heeft of voor kleine/
te vroeg geboren baby‘s), of om de baby te helpen
omgaan met de melkstroom.
Contra-indicaties Er zijn geen contra-indicaties.
Bijwerkingen Bij het gebruik van het apparaat kunnen
zich ongewenste bijwerkingen voordoen, zoals mastitis
(borstontsteking), beëindiging van de lactatie, spruw
en een slechte gewichtstoename van het kind. Neem
contact op met een gezondheidszorgprofessional of
lactatiedeskundige als u of uw baby een van deze
symptomen ervaart.
Belangrijke veiligheidsinformatie
Lees deze belangrijke informatie zorgvuldig door voordat
u het product gaat gebruiken en bewaar de informatie

Waarschuwing om verstikking en inslikken te

-Laat de tepelbeschermer en het hygiënische
bewaardoosje niet onbeheerd achter en houd het
buiten het bereik van kinderen.
-Inspecteer vóór elk gebruik. Gooi het product weg bij

Aanbevelingen

gebruik worden vermeld.

apparaat heeft voorgedaan, moet via

Voordat u het apparaat gebruikt
Stap 1 - Reinigen
Waarschuwing
Gebruik geen schurende schoonmaakmiddelen of
agressieve chemicaliën om de tepelbeschermer schoon
te maken. Reinig de tepelbeschermer en het hygiënische
bewaardoosje vóór het eerste gebruik en onmiddellijk
na elk gebruik.
Handmatige reiniging
1 10-15 seconden lang afspoelen met water van
drinkwaterkwaliteit.
2 Schoonmaken in warm water van drinkwaterkwaliteit
(ong. 35 °C) met afwasmiddel zonder kunstmatig
geur- of kleurstoen.
3 10-15 seconden lang afspoelen met water van
drinkwaterkwaliteit.
4 Afdrogen met een schone doek of laat drogen op een
schoon oppervlak.
Schoonmaken in de vaatwasmachine
1 Plaats op het bovenste rek van de vaatwasmachine
2 Gebruik het standaardprogramma en gewoon
afwasmiddel voor vaatwasmachines.

Als het product niet droog is, droog het dan af met
een schone doek of laat drogen op een schoon
oppervlak.
Stap 2 - Desinfecteren
Waarschuwing
Desinfecteer het product vóór het eerste gebruik en ten
minste één keer per dag. Maak het product schoon vóór
u het desinfecteert. Voorzichtig: De tepelbeschermers
kunnen na het desinfecteren erg heet zijn. Het
hygiënische bewaardoosje en het water in het doosje
kunnen erg heet zijn. Laat het vóór gebruik vijf minuten
afkoelen om brandwonden te voorkomen.
Waarschuwingen om besmetting te voorkomen en
hygiëne te waarborgen
Als u het hygiënische bewaardoosje gebruikt om te
desinfecteren:
-Reinig het bewaardoosje voordat u het voor de eerste
keer gebruikt.
-Gebruik het juiste waterniveau, en stel de magnetron
in op de juiste tijd en het juiste vermogen. Als u
dit niet doet, worden het bewaardoosje of de
tepelbeschermers mogelijk niet goed gedesinfecteerd
of kunnen ze beschadigd raken.
-Gebruik uitsluitend het meegeleverde bewaardoosje.
Koken
1 Maak het product schoon zoals wordt beschreven in
‘Schoonmaken’.
2 Laat de tepelbeschermers 5 minuten in water van
drinkwaterkwaliteit koken.
3 Laat drogen op een schoon oppervlak.
Magnetron U kunt ook alleen het meegeleverde
hygiënische bewaardoosje gebruiken. Volg in dat geval
de onderstaande instructies.
1 Maak het hygiënische bewaardoosje schoon (zoals
wordt beschreven in ‘Reinigen’).
2 Voeg 25 ml water van drinkwaterkwaliteit toe aan het
doosje, tot de aangegeven streep (afbeelding 1).
3 Plaats de tepelbeschermers in het hygiënische
bewaardoosje en sluit het deksel (afbeelding 2).
4 Plaats het hygiënische bewaardoosje 3 minuten in
de magnetron op een vermogen van 750-1000 W
(afbeelding 3).
5 Laat het hygiënische bewaardoosje 5 minuten
afkoelen (afbeelding 4).
6 Laat het water in het hygiënische bewaardoosje
wegstromen (afbeelding 5).
7 Droog de tepelbeschermers af met een schone doek
of laat drogen op een schoon oppervlak.
Gebruik
Waarschuwing
Om besmetting te voorkomen, moet u uw handen
en borsten goed wassen met zeepsop voordat u de
tepelbeschermers aanraakt
.
Het product aanbrengen Volg de onderstaande
instructies om het product op uw borst te plaatsen:
1 Haal de gereinigde en gedesinfecteerde
tepelbeschermer uit het hygiënische bewaardoosje.
2 Breng wat water van drinkwaterkwaliteit of
moedermelk aan op het oppervlak dat op de huid
wordt geplaatst, zodat de beschermer beter op uw
huid blijft plakken (afb. 6).
3 Houd de beschermer onderaan bij de tepel en keer
de tepelopening gedeeltelijk binnenstebuiten, totdat
deze halverwege omgekeerd is (afbeelding 7).
4 Draai de beschermer zodanig dat de neus en kin van
de baby contact kunnen maken met de huid van uw
borst (afbeelding 8).
5 Houd de beschermer recht voor uw tepel, strek de
vleugels van de beschermer een beetje en plak het
product op uw borst (afbeelding 9).
6 Wanneer de beschermer is geplaatst, kunt u zoals
normaal borstvoeding geven.
Opslaan
Bewaar de schone tepelbeschermers in het
hygiënische bewaardoosje of in een droge, schone
houder. Als u de tepelbeschermers in een vieze of natte
houder bewaart, kunnen er verontreinigingen ontstaan.
Afvoeren Voer het product conform.
Uitleg van symbolen
De waarschuwingstekens en symbolen moeten
ervoor zorgen dat u dit product veilig en op de
juiste manier gebruikt, om u en anderen voor letsel
te behoeden. Hieronder vindt u een overzicht van
de waarschuwingstekens en symbolen die op het
etiket en in de gebruiksaanwijzing voorkomen en de
betekenis ervan.
Dit symbool geeft aan dat dit apparaat voldoet
aan de eisen van de Europese Richtlijn
Medische Hulpmiddelen 93/42/EEG.
Dit symbool betekent dat het hygiënische
bewaardoosje geschikt is voor de magnetron.
Dit symbool betekent dat het hygiënische
bewaardoosje met water gevuld moet worden.
Dit symbool betekent dat u 5 minuten
moet wachten voordat u het hygiënische
bewaardoosje uit de magnetron haalt.
De 5 in dit symbool geeft de recyclecode aan
die gebruikt wordt om aan te geven uit welk
materiaal het hygiënische bewaardoosje is
gemaakt (polypropyleen), om recycling of
andere herverwerking gemakkelijker te maken.
De Groene Punt (‚Der Grüne Punkt‘ in
het Duits) is het logo voor de licentie
van een Europees netwerk van door de
branche genancierde systemen voor het
recyclen van verpakkingsmaterialen van
consumptiegoederen.
