BaseStaon
This page provides specicaons for BaseStaons and informaon about their use.
The BaseStaon is the acve hardware component that links other acve components to Move. Using a radio
frequency channel (RF channel) between 11-26, the BaseStaon synchronizes OpTrack cameras with Acve Tags and
Pucks. Once the BaseStaon receives the signal from the acve component, it sends that data to the Move computer
along the camera network. This allows Move to recognize Acve Pucks and Tags even with signicant occlusion of the
LED markers, as compared to passive markers.
If you use Acve Tags or Pucks, at least one BaseStaon is required per tracking system.
For larger volumes, the approximate range from BaseStaon to Tags/Pucks is 100’.

BaseStaon Load Capacity

The number of IMUs that can aach to a BaseStaon is determined by the system frame rate and the divisor applied to
the BaseStaon. The table below shows the IMU maximum for common frame rates with a divisor rate of 1, 2, and in
some cases 3.

As noted, the table does not include all possible frame rate and divisor combinaons. If you are familiar with using Tera
Term or , you can determine the maximum number of IMUs for any specic frame rate and divisor combinaon PuTTy
not shown on the table.
1. Use PuTTy to change the divisor rate on the BaseStaon.
2. Connect an IMU puck to PuTTy.
3. Aempt to set the ID of the puck to an unrealiscally high value. This triggers a warning that includes the
current number of slots available for the given frame rate.
4. Set the IMU puck ID to the highest available slot for the frame rate and conrm that it appears in Move.
BaseStaons have 16 radio frequency (RF) channels available for use (11-26). When adding more than one BaseStaon
to a system, the IMU count is simply the maximum number of IMUs mulplied by the number of BaseStaons (up to 16).
For example, in a system with 4 BaseStaons running at 90Hz and a divisor rate of 3, the number of allowable IMUs
would be 216 (54*4=216).
Congure the BaseStaon
As shipped, BaseStaons will connect to the OpTrack system without addional conguraon by the user. Some
circumstances may require a conguraon update, such as when adding new BaseStaons to an exisng system or when
you wish to change the divisor rate.
The BaseStaon is congured outside of Move, using one of the following programs:
Acve Batch Programmer
PuTTy
Please see the linked pages for more details on conguring the BaseStaon.
BaseStaon LEDs

From Right to Le:
Communicaon Indicator LED: When the BaseStaon is successfully sending data and communicang with the
Acve Pucks, the LED closest to the antenna will blink green. If this LED turns red, it indicates that the
BaseStaon failed to establish a connecon with Move.
Interference Indicator LED: The middle LED indicates if there are other signal-traics on the respecve radio
channel and PAN ID that might be interfering with the acve components. This LED should stay dark in order for
the acve marker system to work properly. If it ashes in red, consider switching both the channel and PAN ID
on all of the acve components.
Power Indicator LED: The LED located at the corner indicates power for the BaseStaon. This LED may be
disabled on BaseStaons with the latest rmware, but on older BaseStaons this LED may light up in red to
indicate the device has power.
BaseStations in Motive
When connected to the OpTrack system, the properes for any Base Staon with rmware 2.x or greater and all
associated acve devices are shown in the Devices Pane. Please see the Devices Pane page for more details.
This feature requires BaseStaon rmware version 2.x or greater. BaseStaons and tags with version 1.x rmware will
not be visible in the Devices pane but will sll work with the OpTrack system.
