Ausgehend von den fünf Prototypen der V 200 (1968 um-
benannt in BR 220), die ab 1953 erprobt wurden, begann
ab 1956 die Ablieferung der ersten 50 Serienmaschinen
dieser Diesellokomotiven an die Deutsche Bundesbahn
(DB). 1958 folgte die Lieferung einer zweiten Bauserie von
31 Stück. Geliefert wurden diese Lokomotiven von den
Firmen ATLAS-MaK und Krauss-Maffei. Die V 200 war
von zwei V-12-Dieselmotoren angetrieben, die austausch
-
bar von MAN, Maybach (MTU) oder Daimler-Benz (MTU)
geliefert wurden. Mit Abgas-Turbolader leistete jeder
Motor 1 100 PS, bei der Nachfolge-Baureihe 221 (ab
1962) sogar 1 350 PS.
Auch die SBB erwarben über einen Zwischenhändler ab
1986 sieben Maschinen der BR 220, die zuvor im Dienst
der DB gestanden hatten und reihten sie entsprechend
ihrem Nummernsystem als Am 4/4 ein. Nötige Umbau
-
maßnahmen für den Betrieb in der Schweiz führte die Re-
gentalbahn AG durch, die Aufarbeitung der Dieselmotoren
übernahm das DB-Ausbesserungswerk Nürnberg.
Bei der SBB wurden die Lokomotiven im Bauzugdienst,
Hilfszugdienst und Anfang 1988 sogar in Doppeltraktion
vor dem Nachtschnellzug „Simplon-Express“ (Belgrad-
Paris) eingesetzt - also überall dort, wo wegen Umbauar-
beiten die Oberleitung abgeschaltet werden musste.
Das vorliegende Modell der 18467 ist die ehemalige
220 077, die bei der SBB 1996 von der neuen Serie 841
abgelöst wurde.
In 1956 the series production of the first 50 units of the
class V 200 diesel locomotive (redesignated class 220
starting in 1968) was begun, which derived from the
5 prototypes that had been tested starting in 1953. In
1958 a second series of 31 units was delivered. These
locomotives were built by the companies ATLAS-MaK
and Krauss-Maffei. The V 200 was powered by two
V-12 diesel motors that were delivered by MAN, Maybach
(MTU) or Daimler-Benz (MTU). With an exhaust gas
turbocharger, each motor provided 1,100 horsepower,
even 1,350 horsepower with the class 221 successor
series (starting in 1962).
The SBB also acquired seven of the class 220 starting
in 1986 through an intermediary. These locomotives
had previously been in service on the DB, and the SBB
designated them as the class Am 4/4 in accordance with
the SBB‘s classification system for locomotives. The firm
Regentalbahn AG carried out the necessary overhauling
of the locomotives for operation in Switzerland. The DB‘s
maintenance facility in Nürnberg overhauled the diesel
motors.
On the SBB these locomotives were used in maintenance
service, emergency response service, and at the start of
1988 even in m.u. service pulling the overnight express
train „Simplon-Express“ (Belgrade-Paris) – i.e. everywhere
where the catenary had to be shut off for rebuilding work.
The model before you of the no. 18467 is the former 220
077, which was replaced on the SBB in 1996 by the new
class 841.
