EINSTELLUNGEN AN DER AKTIVWEICHE
Die EBR-T4 Bassreflex Systeme benötigen ein tiefpassgefiltertes
Signal. D.h. die Aktivweiche am Verstärker die dem Basskanal
vorgeschaltet ist, oder der DSP am Headunit welche den Sub-
Line-Out ansteuert, muss entsprechend aktiviert werden. Ăśblich
sind Flankensteilheiten von min. 12 dB/Okt bis max. 24dB/Okt.
Bei Kompaktklassefahrzeugen ergibt eine Tiefpassfilterung des
Subkanales mit 18dB und eine Hochpassfilterung mit 12dB/Okt.
fĂĽr die Satellitensysteme in der Regel die beste Summenaddition der
Schallanteile und dadurch beste Präzision und höchsten Schalldruck
im Ăśbergangsbereich.
Die Trennfrequenz des Tiefpasses fĂĽr den Subwoofer und der
Hochpässe der Komponenten- oder Koaxialsysteme sollte vorab auf
ca. 80Hz eingestellt werden, was eine gute Ausgangsbasis fĂĽr das
Austesten der akustisch korrekten Anschlusspolung des Subwoofers
darstellt.
Phasenrichtige Polung: Bedingt durch die Wegstreckendifferenz
der Schallanteile vom Komposystemen in der VordertĂĽren
und dem Subwoofer im Kofferraum muss durch Umpolen des
Subwoofer Anschlusskabels am Terminalstecker die besser klingen-
de Anschlussvariante ausgetestet werden. Die Feineinstellung der
Phase des Basskanales kann wenn vorhanden, ĂĽber den Phase-
Shift Regler am Amp oder der Laufzeitkorrektur am Headunit/
Prozessor noch weiter optimiert werden. Die vorab zu tätigende
beste Anschlusspolung vom Subwoofer zeichnet sich durch klei-
nere Schallauslöschung auf der Übergangsfrequenz aus, was sich
normalerweise durch hörbar mehr Pegel im oberen Bassbereich
äussert.
Der „Hörtest“ zur Beurteilung des Klanges der beiden möglichen
Anschlusspolungen erfolgt – mit geschlossener Heckklappe – immer
auf dem Fahrersitz. Eine der beiden Anschlussvarianten wird
einen hörbar satteren und volleren Klang im oberen Bassbereich
zur Folge haben! Ist diese gefunden, kann der Oberteil vom Stecker
festgeschraubt werden.
Durch die folgende Fein-Einstellung der Subwoofer Trennfrequenz
und der Eingangsempfindlichkeit an der Endstufe, lässt sich der
Klang des Subwoofers im Bassbereich weiter optimieren. Die
Tiefpass Trennfrequenz sollte dabei in einem Bereich von ca. 65 bis
max. 90 Hz liegen.
Hinweis: Eine zu tiefe Trennfrequenz (<70Hz) fĂĽhrt zu einem tiefbas-
slastigen und drucklosen Klang, zu hohe Trennfrequenzen ergeben
eine unsaubere und „dünne“ Basswiedergabe mit Dröhnneigung
und fehlendem Tiefgang.

Vor der Inbetriebnahme dieses Gehäuse-Subwoofers lesen Sie bitte
die nachfolgende Anschluss- und Einstellanleitung genau durch, um
das Klangpotential dieses Gerätes voll auszuschöpfen.
Dieser EMPHASER Gehäuse-Subwoofer basiert auf dem Bassreflex
Funktionsprinzip, mit nachfolgenden Hauptmerkmalen:

GEHÄUSE PLAZIERUNG & WEITERE INFO’S
Die X-Treme T4 Bassreflex Gehäusesubwoofer sind für eine
Plazierung im Kofferraum, direkt hinter der Rückbankschräge aus-
gelegt, respektive akustisch auf diese Position im Fahrzeug abge-
stimmt. Das EMPHASER Sicherheits-Anschlussterminal erleichtert
den Anschluss und das Herausnehmen des Subwoofergehäuses
(wenn mal das ganze Kofferraumvolumen benötigt wird). Das
unbeabsichtigte Verpolen des Zuleitungkabels zum Subwoofer
wird durch die spezielle Formgebung des Steckers und der Dose
vermieden. Die EMPHASER T4 Gehäuse verfügen über eine
Bassreflexabstimmung mit Slot Port Kanal, welches deutlich höhe-
re Lautstärken ohne Nebengeräusche durch Luftverwirbelungen
ermöglicht, da der Kanal eine optimale Koppelung der schwingen-
den Luftsäule an die Woofer ermöglicht.
ANSCHLUSS AM VERSTĂ„RKER
Entfernen Sie den Deckel des Steckergehäuses und schliessen
Sie das auf ca. 8 mm Länge abisolierte Zuleitungskabel von den
entsprechenden Kanälen der Endstufe, welche den T4 Subwoofer
treiben sollen, an die beiden innenliegenden Polklemmen an.
Montieren Sie den Deckel des Steckers noch nicht, denn es muss
erst die akustisch richtige Polung des Subwoofers durch austesten
gefunden werden.

ADJUSTMENT OF CROSSOVER
The T4 ported subwoofer systems need a lowpass filtered signal
to perform best. Thus you have to select the low-pass crossover
function of the amplifier channels that drive your sub, or activate
the DSP based crossover of your headunit driving the sub line-out.
A filter slope steepness of min. 12dB/oct up to 24dB/oct is recom-
mended. For normal compact type cars an 18dB/oct. lowpass for
the sub channel(s) in combination with 12dB/oct. highpass filtered
channels feeding the satellite speakers will usually render best
phase match on the x-over frequency.
The lowpass and highpass cut off / cut in frequency points should
be set to approx. 80 Hz, in order to test the best connection polarity
of your subwoofer.
Phase optimized connection polarity: The correct and best sounding
polarity for your subwoofer needs to be determined empirically „by
ear“, due to the different sound wave path lenghts by the component
system mounted to the front door and the sub playing in the trunk.
This is carried out by connecting the speaker wire to the plug of the
subwoofer either correctly “in-phase” or with reversed connection
polarity – while the resulting sound needs to be judged sitting on
the drivers seat and with the trunk closed. You can further improve
the phase match of the sub to the satellite speakers, if your amp
features a phase shift control function, or if the headunit deploys a
DSP offering time alignment of sat/sub channels.
Once you have found the correct or better sounding connection
polarity of your sub, you can re-mount the top of the terminal
plug.
The final adjustments now center around the lowpass crossover
frequency point and input level gain of the amp channels driving
the subwoofer. In general, the lowpass crossover frequency should
be set in between 65 to 90 Hz.
Note: Selecting a very low crossover frequency (<70Hz) will give
you soft and infra-bass heavy sound, whereas setting the x-over
frequency too high tends to let you end up with an „over-booming“
sound character lacking low end extension.

Before you put this subwoofer in your trunk and fire it up, please
read the manual and all operating and adjustment instructions
given, to obtain best possible sound quality and full performance.
This X-Treme T4 trunk box subwoofer model follows the ported
enclosure tuning principle, with some special features implemented
in the construction as listed below:

BOX LOCATION & GENERAL INFO
The X-Treme T4 trunk box sub models are designed and acoustically
optimized for deployment in the trunk of hatchback or sedan type
vehicles.
The EMPHASER „Safety Terminal“ provides straightforward and
simple connection of this subwoofermodel, or a quick removal of
it when necessary. Accidential reverse polarity connections are
avoided by the special shape of the plug and the receptor cup, that
fit together like a key in a lock. The slot port enclosure design enab-
les the T4 woofer to perform as intended, i.e. sustaining exceptio-
nally high undistorted and port noise free bass output levels.
CONNECTION TO THE AMP
Remove the top part of the speaker plug. Connect the speaker wires
coming from the amp to the terminal binding posts located inside
the main terminal housing. Do not remount the top of the plug yet,
as the correct connection polarity of the speaker cable connecting
the sub to the amp must be determined first, to obtain in phase
response between subwoofer and satellite speakers.
