OPERATING

INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance is used on Alternating Current

120V AC 60 hertz only. To reduce the risk of

electric shock, this appliance has a polarized

plug (one blade is wider than the other). As a

safety feature, this plug will fit in the outlet

only one way. If the plug does not fit fully in

the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not

fit, contact a qualified electrician to install the

proper outlet. Do not change the plug in any

way. Do not attempt to defeat this safety

feature.

Your new Conair® haircut kit has everything

you need to achieve professional haircuts at

home. It features a powerful clipper with cut-

ting precision. Also included are 8 attach-

ment combs for different hair lengths (includ-

ing left and right ear combs). It also comes

with 2 styling clips to assist you in cutting

longer hair styles, a storage case, barber

comb, barber scissors, barber cape, cleaning

brush, lubricating oil and a blade guard for

easy maintenance of the clipper blades.

THE CONAIR GUIDE

TO CUTTING HAIR AT HOME

Before you start:

1. Inspect your clipper. Make sure it’s

free of hair and dirt, properly oiled, and run-

ning smoothly.

2. Place a towel or cape around the neck

of the person.

3. Seat the person so that his or her head

is at your eye level. This gives you greater

visibility and control.

4. First, comb hair until it’s tangle-free. Then

hold clipper in a comfortable grip. Now you’re

ready to cut.

MEDIUM TO LONG CUT

To begin with, cut only a small amount of

hair until you become used to the length each

attachment leaves the hair. Try the longest

attachment on the clipper first. If you want a

shorter cut, you can then use shorter combs.

• Short attachment comb (number 1) cuts

hair to 1/8”.

• Medium-Short attachment comb (number 2)

cuts hair to 1/4”.

• Medium-Long attachment comb (number 3)

cuts hair to 3/8”.

• Long attachment comb (number 4) cuts

hair to 1/2”.

• Long attachment comb (number 5) cuts

hair to 5/8”.

• Long attachment comb (number 7) cuts

hair to 3/4”.

• Left ear attachment comb lightly tapers

over left ear.

• Right ear attachment comb lightly tapers

over right ear.

Attach combs by hold-

ing them teeth up,

then snapping onto the

bottom of the clipper

blade.

To remove comb

attachments, place

index finger and thumb

as illustrated; then pull

out and up.

NOTE: Never push or shove the clipper

through the hair to make it move more

quickly. Professional experience shows that

the clipper works most efficiently when it

cuts through the hair at its own speed.

To begin cutting hair:

1. The hair should

be combed in its

natural direction.

2. Using the larg-

est attachment comb,

trim sides from the

bottom upwards.

Hold clipper lightly against the hair

with teeth of the attachment comb point-

ing up ward, yet flat against the head.

Gradually lift the clipper upward and out-

ward through the hair, trimming just a

little at a time.

Repeat around sides and back of head.

If you want hair to be even shorter:

A) Apply more pressure to

the head with the attach-

ment comb that is in place.

This takes a little practice,

of course.

B) Just switch to a shorter

attachment comb.

Remember, it’s better to

leave too much hair than too

little. For longer hair on top,

use the barber comb and lift

hair on the top of the head,

cutting over the comb.

Or hold the hair between the

fingers and cut to desired

length. Always working from

the front to the back of the

head, gradually cut the hair

shorter by reducing the

space between the comb or

fingers and the head. Comb

often to check for uneven strands, and to get

rid of trimmed hair.

OUTLINING:

Outlining requires no attachments. Comb hair into

the desired style. Position the clipper between

the sideburns and the ear (see below), making

sure the corner edge of the blade is against the

hairline. With the outline of the hair as your guide,

slowly move the clipper over, around and

behind the ears. For the back of the neck and

the sideburns, hold the clipper upside down

(see Fig. 1) and, holding it against the skin at the

length desired, move the clipper downward.

STOP. COMB CHECK.

For best results, do as the professionals do:

comb hair often, and check clipping results as

you comb. This way you avoid uneven sides,

bangs, neckline, etc.

SHORT CUTS TO PERFECT

FLAT TOPS, CREW CUTS, ETC.

Always cut from the back of the neck to the

crown, using the longest comb setting. Hold

the comb attachment flat against the head

and slowly move the clipper up through the

hair. Use the same technique for the sides,

cutting from the bottom to the upper side of

the head.

For the front to the crown, cut the hair against

the direction in which it grows. Then even it

up with the sides.

For a flat top, use the flat comb, not the

attachment comb. Just cut hair on top of the

head over the flat comb. (see Fig. 2).

To taper hair down to the neckline, use

attachment comb #1. Comb hair and

check for uneven spots. Outline sideburns

and neck areas (see “Outlining”).

CARE OF YOUR CLIPPERS

IF YOU DETERMINE THAT BLADE

ALIGNMENT IS INCORRECT:

MAINTENANCE OF THE BLADE

Always apply oil to the blades before, during and

after use. This will ensure maximum cutting

performance. Hold clipper away from your body

in a downward position and apply oil on the front

and sides of the cutter blade. Wipe excess oil off

with a soft dry cloth.

Conair® hair clippers are carefully inspected to

insure that the blades are in perfect alignment.

You will need to realign the blades after remov-

ing them for cleaning or replacement, or if they

should be knocked out of alignment. How can

you tell if the blades need realigning? Simply

match them up, point for point, to conform with

the drawing below.

To replace cutting comb and cutter after remov-

al for cleaning, replacement or, because they

are out of alignment, slide the cutter back on to

the black plastic oscillating head. Next, you

must make sure that the cutter (small blade)

and the cutting comb (large blade) are properly

aligned. Line up the new or existing cutting

comb with the two screw holes. Place the

original screws, one in each hole, and lightly

tighten with a Phillips head screwdriver.

Then, match the two blades up, point to point,

conforming with the illustration below in (Fig.

2).

*The top edge of the cutting comb should be

1/32” to 1/16” (.79 mm. to 1.59 mm.) higher

than the top edge of the cutter. This is important

so that the clipper does not cut too close, or

come in contact with the skin.

*The extreme left-hand tooth of the cutting

comb must cover or be to the extreme left hand

of the first small tooth of the cutter.

*Be sure that the extreme right hand big tooth

of the cutter touches the extreme right hand

tooth of the cutting comb.

Any other servicing should be performed by an

authorized service representative or that the

appliance has no user serviceable parts. The

product is for household use.

Do not pull, twist, or wrap line cord around

appliance.

SPECIAL OIL

To maintain the blades of your Conair ® clip-

per, oil them after every three or four haircuts.

Gently place a few drops of oil on the teeth of the

blades, using the special Conair® oil included

with your set. Turn the clipper on for a minute,

then turn off. This light, natural oil was formu-

lated specifically for the Conair

® high-speed

clipper. Be cause it is the right oil to use, it

will not slow down the blades. Never use

any other product. There is no substitute for

Conair oil.

POWER SCREW

The power screw permits you to adjust the

power of your clipper. You may need to adjust

it if the power in your house is low. (The

Conair® clipper was designed for household

use.)

1. With screwdriver or dime, turn the power

screw counter clockwise until arm strikes the

coil, making a clacking noise. (FIG. 1)

2. Then turn the screw clockwise, until the

noise stops and then turn about 45 degrees

more. This is the maximum power setting.

OIL BLADE BEFORE USE

ADJUSTABLE TAPER LEVER

Just like professional clippers, the Conair taper

lever is positioned at your thumb. You can hold

the clipper in your hand and adjust the lever at

the same time...while you’re clipping.

This taper lever eliminates the need for

an attachment comb because it lets you

gradually adjust the closeness of the cut. For

the closest cut and the shortest hair, push taper

lever up as far as it will go. To increase cutting

length, slowly push lever down. If you push to

the lowest position, it will leave hair about the

same length as the short attachment.

Because a different cutting edge is used in

each setting, the taper lever lengthens the life

of your blades.

Packed-in hair can slow down any clipper.

To remove hair without removing the blades,

use your cleaning brush to brush hair out of

the blades. This should be done after each

use. When blades are free of hair put a small

amount of oil across them.

If you do this after every clipping, especially

with heavy hair cutting, the blades should

remain in good working condition. If clipper

stops cutting and this action doesn’t help,

check the blades. If they’ve become dull,

re place them. For new blades, send check

or money order for $6.50 (see order blank.)

EL CABELLO EN SU CASA

Antes de empezar:

el cabello

empezar.

CORTES MEDIANOS A LARGOS

Empiece por cortar poco cabello, hasta acostumbrase al

cortado de cada peine accesorio. Use el peine accesorio

más largo para empezar, luego use peines accesorios

más cortos para acortar el cabello.

• El peine accesorio corto (No.1) corta el cabello a

1/8” (3 mm)

• El peine accesorio mediano-corto (No.2) corta e

cabello a 1/4” (6 mm)

• El peine accesorio mediano-largo (No.3) corta e

cabello a 3/8” (9 mm)

• El peine accesorio largo (No.4) corta el cabello a

1/2” (13 mm)

• El peine accesorio largo (No.5) corta el cabello a

5/8” (16 mm)

3/4” (19 mm)

Para ensamblar el

peine accesorio, sos-

téngalo cabeza arriba

y engánchelo en la

parte inferior del filo

Para quitar el peine

accesorio, cójalo entre

la ilustración, y jale

el peine hacia arriba

y afuera.

NOTA: Nunca empuje la cortadora para que

corte más rápidamente. La experiencia

profesional demuestra que funciona mejor

cuando corta a su propia velocidad.

Empezar el corte de

cabello:

1.. Peine el cabel

en la dirección de su

crecimiento natural

2.. Empiece el recor

a un lado de la cabe-

za, usando el peine

accesorio más largo, y

cortando de abajo hacia arriba. Sostenga la

cortadora ligeramente contra el cabello con

y plano contra la cabeza. Pase la cortadora

en el cabello gradualmente hacia arriba y

hacia fuera, cortando un poco cada vez.

Repita al otro lado y atrás de la cabeza.

Si quiere un corte de cabello aún más corto:

A)) Aplique más presión con

peine accesorio. Esto necesita al

principio un poco de práctica.

O, B) Cambie el peine accesorio

por uno más corto. Recuérdese

que es mejor dejar demasiado

cabello que muy poco.

Si quiere dejar el cabello más largo

encima de la cabeza, use el peine de

barbero o sus dedos para

levantar el cabello y corte a lo

largo deseado. Trabaje siem-

pre de adelante por atrás de la

cabeza y corte el cabello poco

a poco, reduciendo el espacio

entre sus dedos o el peine

y la cabeza. Peine con

frecuencia para verificar que no

hayan mechones disparejos y para

CONTORNEO

El contorneo no requiere accesorios. Peine el

cabello en el estilo deseado. Coloque la corta-

dora entre las patillas y la oreja (véase el dibujo) y

asegúrese que la esquina de la cuchilla se encuentre

contra el nacimiento del pelo. Mueva la corta-

dora lentamente sobre, alrededor y por atrás de las

orejas, siguiendo la forma del cabello. Para cor-

tar el pelo en la nuca y las patillas, sostenga la

cortadora al revés (véase el dibujo), colóquela contra

la piel al nivel deseado y muévala hacia abajo.

Para resultados óptimos, siga el ejemplo

de los profesionales: peine el cabello con

frecuencia y verifique los resultados mientras

peine. Esto evitará tener lados, flequillos o

líneas de nuca disparejos.

PERFECTOS CORTES CON

CORONILLAS PLANAS, CORTES

MILITARES ETC.

Siempre corte el cabello desde la parte trasera

de la nuca hacia la coronilla, usando el peine

accesorio más largo. Sostenga el peine contra

la cabeza y mueva la cortadora lentamente en

el cabello hacia arriba. Use la misma técnica

para los lados, cortando desde abajo hasta la

parte superior lateral de la cabeza.

Para la parte delantera, corte el cabello en la

dirección contraria a la del crecimiento natu-

ral del cabello, luego iguale los lados.

Para una coronilla plana, use un peine

plano en vez de un peine accesorio, y corte el

cabello encima del peine (véase el dibujo).

Para cortar el pelo en la nuca y en las patillas,

use el peine accesorio No.1 (Véase la sec-

ción “Contorneo”).

ALINEACIÓN DE LAS CUCHILLAS

MANTENIMIENTO DE LAS CUCHILLAS:

Para resultados óptimos, siempre aplique aceite

lubricante en las cuchillas antes, durante y

después de usar la cortadora. Mantenga el

aparato boca abajo, lejos de su cuerpo, y aplique

aceite sobre y los lados de las cuchillas. Limpie el

exceso de aceite con un paño seco y suave.

Las cortadoras de Conair® son inspeccionadas

para asegurarse que las cuchillas estén

perfectamente alineadas. Usted necesitará alin-

earlas nuevamente después de extraerlas para

limpiarlas o reemplazarlas o si se desalinearan

por un golpe. Para determinar si las cuchillas

necesitan alinearse de nuevo, simplemente hága-

las coincidir como lo indican las figuras que se

encuentran a continuación.

Para reemplazar las cuchillas después de extraer-

las, regrese la cuchilla pequeña en la guía osci-

lante de plástico negro, luego asegúrese que la

cuchilla pequeña y la cuchilla grande estén alin-

eadas. Alinee la cuchilla grande con los dos orifi-

cios para tornillos, luego regrese los dos tornillos

originales, apretándolos ligeramente con un

destornillador Phillips.

Alinee las dos cuchillas como lo indica la figura

a continuación.

*Para evitar que

la cortadora corte el pelo demasiado corto o

que las cuchillas toquen la piel, asegúrese que

la parte superior de la cuchilla grande esté a

una distancia de 0.08 cm a 0.16 cm de la

cuchilla pequeña.

*Asegúrese que el extremo diente izquierdo de

la cuchilla grande cubra o esté a la izquierda del

primer diente pequeño de la cuchilla pequeña.

*Asegúrese que el diente grande de la extremi-

dad derecha de la cuchilla pequeña toque el

diente de la extremidad derecha de la cuchilla

grande.

Para cualquier otro servicio, lleve su aparato a

un centro de servicio autorizado. Este

producto no tiene piezas que puedan ser repa-

radas por el usuario. Este producto fue diseñado

para uso doméstico. No jale, doble o enrolle el

cable alrededor del aparato.

ACEITE ESPECIAL

Para mantener las cuchillas de su corta-

dora en condición óptima, lubríquelas

después de tres o cuatro cortes de cabel-

lo. Aplique unas cuantas gotas de aceite

lubricante en los dientes de las cuchillas,

encienda la cortadora durante un minuto,

luego apáguela. Este aceite lubricante ligero

fue específicamente diseñado para las

cortadoras de alta velocidad de Conair

®.

Porque es el aceite adecuado, no reducirá

la velocidad de las cuchillas. Nunca use otro

aceite para lubricar su aparato. No hay ningún

substituto al aceite de Conair.

TORNILLO REGULADOR DE ENERGÍA

El tornillo regulador de energía le permite

ajustar la potencia de su aparato si la elec-

tricidad en su casa está baja (la cortadora

de cabello de Conair®

fue diseñada para uso

casero).

1.. Use un destornillador o una moneda pa

girar el tornillo en el sentido horario hasta que

se oiga un ruido. FIG. 3

2. Gire el tornillo en sentido antihorario hasta

que el ruido se detenga, luego 45 grados más.

PALANCA REGULADORA AJUSTABLE

Al igual que las cortadoras profesionales, su

cortadora tiene una palanca reguladora ajust-

able al nivel de su dedo pulgar, para que pueda

controlar el tamaño del cortado a medida que

corta el cabello.

La palanca reguladora le permite cortar el

cabello más corto o más largo, sin que tenga

que usar un peine accesorio. Para un corte

más corto, empuje la palanca hacia arriba.

Para un corte más largo, empuje la palanca

lentamente hacia abajo. El ajuste más corto

dejará el cabello tan corto como el peine

accesorio corto No.1.

Usar la palanca reguladora ajustable prolonga

la vida útil de las cuchillas, puesto que nunca

usan el mismo ángulo para cortar.

Su cortadora puede perder velocidad si recortes

de cabello están trabados en las cuchillas.

Para limpiarlas sin tener que removerlas,

use el cepillo de limpieza provisto. Limpie las

cuchillas después de cada uso, luego ponga

unas cuantas gotas de aceite lubricante en

las cuchillas.

Hacer esto después de cada uso, especial-

mente cuando se corta mucho cabello, man-

tendrá las cuchillas en condición óptima.

Si la cortadora deje de funcionar, y que esto

no solucione el problema, inspeccione las

cuchillas. Si estén embotadas, cámbielas. Para

comprar nuevas cuchillas, mande un cheque o

un giro postal de $6,50US (esto incluye gastos

de envío y manejo si el pedido es de $10,00US

o más) a la dirección más abajo, junto con el

formulario de pedido para partes de repuesto.
