Location
Position your banjo barometer in an area where it can remain undisturbed. Do not position in direct sunlight
and avoid sources of heat and humidity that are not representative of the area you are looking to measure,
such as a kettle.
Setting Up Your Banjo Barometer
- Establish the current pressure for your location by visiting www.bbc.co.uk/weather.
- Adjust the needle via the turn screw on the back of the dial to set the current barometric pressure. Do not
over-tighten the barometer movement as this can damage the mechanism.
- Hang the banjo barometer in your desired location using the keyhole fitting on the back and leave for a few
days to acclimatise.
Reading Your Banjo Barometer
- Increasing pressure (movement of the needle in a clockwise direction) suggests improving weather.
- Decreasing pressure (movement of the needle in an anti-clockwise direction) suggests deteriorating weather.
- Steady pressure, typical of extended periods of fine weather, suggests more of the same conditions.
- Use the left-hand side of the stick thermometer scale to read current air temperature in C and the right-
hand side for F. 
- Use the hygrometer scale to read current humidity in % RH.
Using The Pressure Pointer
The settable pointer, controlled by the knob in the centre of the barometer dial face, can be used to show
changes in atmospheric pressure. To do this, move your settable pointer until it rests exactly over the internal
needle. The next time you observe your dial, any change in pressure will be highlighted by looking at the
difference in position of the two pointers.
