Lowdown recreates the super-fat, room-rattling lowdown sounds of the most
legendary dual-oscillator bass pedal synth ever made. From the dual
âconstant-beatâî˘oscillators to the girthy ladder ďŹlter, DSP wizard Mark Barton
(MRB) has modeled every aspect of the original with exceptional accuracy.î˘
Outside of a handful of organ-oriented instruments, the original instrument
was the ďŹrst dedicated foot-controlled bass synthesizer, and with its
enormously girthy tone, unquestionably the best sounding. It was used by
some of the top acts of 70s and 80s, including Rush, Yes, Genesis, U2, and
The Police (check out the intro of "Don't Stand So Close To Me" or Phil Collins'
"I Don't Care Anymore.")

The original design used a Hz/V oscillator scaling (as opposed to the more
conventional volts/oct oscillator scaling) that allows oscillator detuning
amount to remain constant across the keyboard by minimizing the phase
cancellation that can happen when two oscillators play simultaneously. Along
with a couple of other engineering tricks, this contributes to its beefy sound.
In order to create Cherry Audio Lowdown, DSP and synthesis legend Mark
Barton carefully analyzed the original's synthesis circuits and precisely
recreated them for a massive virtual bass experience like no other. We're
simply thrilled with the outcome of this fun and easy-to-use earth-moving
bass experience and we hope you love it as much as we do!

This manual will detail each section of Lowdown; the order of the chapters
follows the signal ďŹow (as opposed to the physical layout of the front panel).

Top Toolbar and Preset Browser
The purple strip at the top of the Lowdown interface is where youâll load,
save, and create sound presets. It also contains utility functions such as
undo/redo, UI zoom and
Focus
controls, under-the-hood settings, and more.
Letâs go over them:
New- Opens a new blank patch preset. If an unsaved patch is currently open
or youâve modiďŹed an existing saved patch, a dialog asks if youâd like to save
the patch in its current state. This greatly reduces the possibility of losing an
edited unsaved patch.
Save- Use this to save patches. There are a couple of levels of hierarchy:
Collection- This is the top level of organization, and contains entire
âsetsâ of presets. The
Lowdown Presets
are the main included collection.
We also include a
User Presets Collection
for storing your own presets, but
youâre free to create your own collections. To create a new collections,
click in the
Collection

User Presets
