OWNER MANUAL SUPPLEMENT
The air bag controller in your <Year> model year <VINDivisionName> <Vehicle_Name> is
mounted above the floor pan beneath the front passenger seat. If your vehicle is ever, or has
previously been, exposed to a significant amount of water entering the vehicle’s interior and
soaking the carpet, the air bag controller can be soaked and damaged. If this occurs and you
start your vehicle, the damaged controller can make the driver’s and/or the passenger’s air
bags inflate, even though there was no frontal impact or crash.
Some people have received minor injuries because of air bag deployments after their vehicles
have been flooded or exposed to water for a long time. The inadvertent deployment of these
bags can also be very expensive. Since they inflate once, you would need to have the
deployed air bag(s), together with all associated sensing equipment, replaced.
If your vehicle is ever exposed to water that soaks the carpet, you can prevent unnecessary
repairs by turning your ignition key off immediately. Don’t let anyone turn the key back on,
even to tow the vehicle, unless the battery cables are first disconnected. You also may wish to
contact your GM dealer for assistance. If a leak is allowing water to enter the interior of your
vehicle, your vehicle should be repaired promptly (a musty odor is an indication that there may
be a leak).
If the air bag readiness light comes on, it means the air bags might not deploy in a crash or
that they could deploy without a crash. Have your vehicle serviced right away if the air bag
readiness light stays on after you start your vehicle.
