Allyouneedbeforeset-up:

Thisproductisfueledbypropanegas,whichisinvisible,odorlessandhighlyflammable.Anodorantisnormal-
lyaddedbythemanufacturer,whichhasa“rottenegg”smelltoit.Thisadditivecanfadeovertime,soleaking
gasisnotalwaysdetectablebysmellalone.
Propanegasisheavierthanairandleakingpropanewillsinktothelowestpossiblelevel.Itcanbeignitedbyaspark
orflameofanykindandfromseveralfeetawayfromaleak.
Donotuseapropanetankwithacapacitylargerthan20lb(9.07kg).Thepropanetankmustbe
providedwithashut-offvalve,arrangedforvaporwithdrawalandincludeacollartoprotectthe
tank’svalve.
PropanegasshouldbestoredorusedincompliancewithlocalordinancesorcodeswithANSI/NFPA58.Make
surethepropanegascontrolvalveisturnedoffwhennotinuse.
Thepropanetankmustalwaysbestoredoutdoors,inawellventilatedareaandoutofthereachof
children.Neverstorepropaneinanenclosedspace(house,garage,etc.).
ThepressureregulatorandhoseassemblysuppliedwiththeBiteShield™CordlessGuardianmustbeusedfor
theconnectiontothepropanetank.Themaximuminletgassupplyislessthan30SCFH(0,85cm3/h).
ReplacementpressureregulatorandhoseassembliesmustbeprovidedbyKoolatron,Inc.
TheBiteShield™CordlessGuardianmustbeusedoutdoorsandonlyinawellventilatedarea.Ifitisstored
indoors,disconnectthepropanetankandproperlystoreitoutdoors.Thedisconnectedtankmusthaveathread-
edvalveplugtightlyinstalled.

mosquitoseason.Thetrapisnotmeantforoccasionaluse,suchasduringanoutdoorparty.

ture(thermalimaging),color,shapeandUV/LEDlightinaneffectivedesignthatcapturesandkillsmosquitoes.Similartraps
havebeeninuseforyearsbyuniversities,statemonitoringprogramsandresearchersaroundtheworld.TheBiteShield™
CordlessGuardianusesthistraditionaltrappingapproach,combinedwiththelatestinresearch,toturnthefemalemosquito’s
naturalhuntingtechniquestowardseekingoutthetrapandthus,facilitatingtheircaptureinaproductthatprivatehomeowners
canuse.Anothermajorfeatureisthatitiscordless–thatis,noelectricalorextensioncordstodealwith!Theunitispowered

yapatentedinternalpowergeneratedmechanismthatusespropanefueltooperatethefanandLEDs.Thuseliminatinga
majorsafetyhazardthatusersmightfacewhileoperatingsuchunitsoutdoors.
Thisishowthefemalemosquitoreactstothetrap:Atafairlylongdistance(upto12.2m/40ft.away),itsensestheCO
2and
moisturecomingfromtheunit’sburner.Thistellsthemosquitothatthereisa“breathing”creaturearound.Itfliestowardsthe
sourceofCOandmoisture.Asittravels,atarangeofapprox.4.6m/15ft.,itstartstosensetemperaturesimilartothatofaliv-2
ingcreature(thermalimaging).Theuniquedesignofthisunithastwodifferentthermal-imagingsystems(patentspending):a)stat-
icthermalimaging,whereinthebodyofthetrap,thereiswarmthatthetopsurfacesofthe“neck”similartothatoflivingbeings.
Thistemperatureisconstantandgeneratesconsistentheatwavesthatattractthemosquitoesclosertotrap.b)Spotthermalimag-
ing:Theblackdome-likesurfaceofthetrapiswarmedupatdifferentpointstobesimilartolivingbeing’stemperatures.Livebeings
donothaveaconsistenttemperatureacrossthebody.Thissendsamessagetothemosquitoessayingthatthisvariationof
temperaturesissimilartoaliveanimal.Thetopofthisareaconsistsofavacuumairflowcausedbytheinternalfanwhich
pullsthemosquitoesintothetrapthankstotheuniquedesignoftheinternalcomponentsofthetrap.Thevacuumairflowgoes
straightintothereceptaclewithgrilledopeningsdepositinginsideofitallthemosquitoesthatwereattracted,wheretheystay
trappeduntiltheydehydrateandultimatelydie.
Itisimportanttoknowthatwhileyouwillbeattractingandcapturingmosquitoesonceoperational,itmaytakesev-
eralweekstostarttoseeareductioninmosquitoesasyourTrapcontinuallyreducesthelocalpopulationoffemale
mosquitoesandfewerandfewerneweggsarelaidforfuturegenerations.
WHERETOPLACE
Manyspeciesofmosquitoeshaveanadultlifespanthatlastsabouttwoweeks.Approximately3,000speciesofmosquitoes
havebeenidentifiedworld-wide.Bothmaleandfemalemosquitoesfeedonplantnectar,butonlythefemalerequiresablood
meal.Thebloodfeedingisneededforeachbatchofeggsthefemalelays,typicallyfeedingonceevery3-4days.Ifthemos-
quitoisnotdisturbed,duringthebitingprocess,abloodfeedingusuallylastsabout90secondsandtheamountofbloodis
1-1/2timesitsbodyweight.Asinglefemalemosquitomaylaythousandsofeggs,duringherlifetime.
Thefemalemosquitoisattractedtoahostbycarbondioxide(CO),temperature,scent,color,shape,movementandforsome2
species,evensound.Thefemalemosquitoisusuallymostactivebetween10°C/50°Fand35°C/95°Fwhileincalmorlight
breezeconditions.Mosquitoestendtotravelup-windwhenseekingabloodfeeding.
TheplacementoftheMosquitoTrapwillgreatlyaffectthesuccessoftheunit’sabilitytocapturemosquitoes.
Thelargestamountofmosquitoeswillbecapturedbypositioningthemosquitotrap9.1m/30ft.to12.2m/40ft.awayfromthe
locationyouwanttoprotect,inthenormaldown-winddirectiontowardswheremosquitoesare
living(trees,bushesandwater).Tofindthebeststartingpointinyouryardfortrapplacement,walkabout
3-4.6m/10-15ftawayfromthedeck(patio,porch)areathatyouwanttoprimarilyprotect.Lightasmokyincenseandwatch
whichdirectionthesmokedriftswhilestandingthere.Next,moveabout1.5-2.4m/5-8fttotheleftoftheoriginalspotand
repeat.Then1.5-2.4m/5-8ft.totherightoftheoriginalspotandrepeat.Thisisalltohelpyou
identifythenormalairflowpattern.Repeatthisprocedureatyourdeckandseeiftheairmovementisinthesamedirection.
Youshouldfindacommonareaofyouryardthattheairmovestoward.Thisiswhereyouwanttoplacethetrap,ideallyata
distanceof12.2-15.2m/40-50ft.awayfromthedeckarea.
Placingthetrapclosetoshrubs,bushes,orothervegetationcanhelptoincreasemosquitocapture.Researchhasdemon-
stratedplantslikemintandlemongrasscandecreasecapturewhilebushyandleafyplantswithoutstrongodorincreasecap-
ture.

IMPORTANT!Beforeremovingthemaskingpaper,familiarizeyourselfwiththeclipsandstickypaper.Doatest
fitoftheclipsthroughtheslotsofthestickypapersoyouarefamiliarwiththefeel,flexibilityandamountofforce
thatwillberequiredtopushtheclipsthroughtheslotsinthestickypaper.
1.Placethestickypaperonaclean,flatsurfaceandcarefullyremovetheyellowprotectivefilmfromthesticky
paper.
*Thereisa½inchstripalongthetopthathasanon-stickysurfaceforyoutoholdonto;exercisecaretoavoid
makingcontactwiththestickysurfacetoyourself,yourclothesorforeignobjectstotheexposedstickysur-
face.
2.Holdingthestickypaperinthecorners,,alignthefirstslotofthestickypaperwiththestickysideoutwards
withthefirsthookatthebottomedgeofthetop,pushthrough.Repeatwiththeotherfourslots.
TheStickyPaperwillnowcapturebloodseekingflyinginsectsdrawntoyourtrapwithoutimpedingthenatural
capturetechniquethatdepositsflyinginsectsintotheTrap’scapturecup–itwillonlycapturethosethatfly
aroundthetrap!Replaceasnecessary.
