Congratulations on your purchase of the AktiMate Mini active speaker system.
Using speaker technology licensed from Epos Limited in the U.K., these speakers have been
developed and built to exacting standards.
With a 3-year parts and labour warranty, your AktiMate system will provide you with years of Mini
enjoyment. Choose your source - whether it be an iPod, MP3 player, CD player, tuner, TV or any
other hi-fi product, plug it in, turn-up the volume and have some fun!
The AktiMate speaker system has a built-in 40-Watt per channel amplifier making this a very Mini
flexible and portable hi-fi system, allowing you to listen to your music whenever you like - wherever
you like.
Two way fully shielded active (master) and passive (slave)
Built-in iPod docking station complete with full-set of adaptors for all sizes
Auxiliary connection for any type of audio source including CD, Tuner, etc.
Local volume control on front of active speaker with push button standby feature
IR remote control
Switchable mains voltage
Available in high gloss white, black and red finish
The 3-metre speaker cable is to c onnect the p assive (slave) speaker. You have the choice of f itting
the screw-on banana plugs supplied with the speakers, or simply using bare wires. We recommend
using 4mm plugs. If you want to extend the cable, please do so in one length, not by adding to the
existing cable. Shorting the speaker cable can cause damage to the built-in amplifier.
Be sure to connect the speakers in phase. Maintain the same polarity by connecting the red and
black terminals on one speaker to the red and black terminals on the second speaker. Be sure to
match the gold-coloured side of the speaker wire to the red terminals on both speakers.
Verify that the power switch on the rear of the active speaker is in the off (0) position. Check that the
voltage switch is set to the right voltage for your country. Check with your dealer if you are unsure.
Connect the power cord into the speaker and the other end into the wall outlet. Switch the system on
(1) with the power switch on the rear panel.
It is always worth remembering when positioning hi-fi speakers, that your room acoustics have a
huge impact on the overall sound quality. As a consequence, there are no h ard and fast rules when
specifying placement, so we would always recommend that you try a few different locations to see
what works best for your particular taste.
As a rule, your speakers should be equidistant from side walls and at least 15-30 cm (6-12 ins) from
a rear wall. The ideal height would be when tweeters are at eye or ear level when listening.

VOLUME
Although a running in period is not required, AktiMate speakers will undoubtedly improve after Mini
some use. We therefore recommend that you play between 24 and 36 hours of music before doing
any critical listening. You’ll be surprised at the result!
We wouldn’t recommend the use of any commercial solvents or household cleaners. All you need to
do is to wipe them over with a soft, dry cloth.
The active speaker features a volume control knob on the lower right hand side of the front of the
speaker and an infrared sensor on the lower left, which also contains 2 indicator LED’s.
To start playing the AktiMate speakers from an iPod or other input, wake-up the system by Mi ni
pressing the volume knob once. This will turn the orange LED off. To stop an iPod playing at a
precise point and cut the sound, press the knob once again.
When the system is in Standby, power consumption is reduced to
a minimum.
To operate the volume, rotate the knob right or left to increase or decrease the level. The blue LED in
the window will flash when the volume level is changing. There are 30 level steps from 0 to
maximum.
When waking the AktiMate Mini from Standby,
any iPod in the dock will automatically start to play at a pre-set level of 8. If you don’t want this to happen, remove
the iPod from the docking station first.
REMOTE CONTROL HANDSET
It is possible to put the system into Standby or wake it up by pressing the power
button (top left side) on the remote control. The blue LED will light when On and
orange will light when in Standby.
The remote control handset allows basic functions for your iPod - i.e. menu,
enter, forward/back, shuffle, repeat, play and pause.
The volume control buttons on the bottom right and left of the handset control the
volume level of all inputs and iPod. The blue LED will flash to show when the
volume is changing from 0 to 30.
Pressing the Mute button on the top right will cut the sound from all inputs and a
red LED will light. When muted, the source will continue to play but will not be
heard.
iPod CONNECTION
AIRPORT EXPRESS
MP3 CONNECTION
USB
The iPod connection is an integral part of the loudspeaker system.
Carefully plug your iPod into the docking station on the top of the speaker, using the appropriate
adaptor to suit your iPod body. The docking station will accept most types of iPod. A range of
adaptors can be found in the accessory pack provided.
Choose the music you wish to listen to and operate the volume control either on the front of the
speaker or by using the handheld remote.
It is possible to link an Airport Express to your Aktimate speakers. First, connect the Airport Mi ni
Express receiver to the mains socket and then run a cable from the receiver to the 3.5mm jack plug
socket on the rear of the speaker.
Any make of MP3 or MP4 player can be connected, simply by using the 3.5mm jack plug input on the
rear panel.
Your Aktimate speakers have a USB connector on the rear panel. This can be used for charging Mini
an iPod or MP3 player. Simply connect the USB cable to the iPod or MP3 player, making sure the
speaker is switched-on! The USB connection is not designed to connect to a computer.

AUXILIARY INPUTS
AUXILIARY OUTPUTS
In addition to being able to play various sizes of iPod, your
AktiMate speakers have 2 other types of inputs on the Mini
rear panel. The RCA input (L&R) is ideal for connecting to
a CD player, tuner, or other line level source. The AUX
3.5mm socket is ideal for connecting to a computer sound
card, AirPort Express, or other type of MP3 player.
Please note that all 3 inputs are connected together
internally. If you choose to connect to 3 different sources at
the same time the level of one or other source may be
reduced. Only removing one or other device will bring the
level back to normal. Please note also that if 3 devices are
playing at the same time, they will all be heard together.
Pause or stop the unwanted devices to listen to the one you
want.
The RCA stereo output on the rear panel allows a second
pair of AktiMate speakers or a subwoofer to be Mi ni
connected, to extend the low frequencies. Look at
www.aktimate.com for the matching subwoofer.
It is possible to run multiple pairs of Aktimate speakers Mi ni
with an RCA stereo cable. Simply connect between the aux
RCA output of the master pair and the aux RCA input of the
second pair. The source will then play simultaneously
through the second pair. The volume can be controlled by
the master volume, but the level should be increased on
the slave pair to suit the conditions.

AktiMate also has a video output for connection to a larger monitor. This is ideal if your iPod has Mini
photo or video storage! It requires an RCA to RCA cable to connect to the TV or other monitor, similar
to connection of a camcorder. N.B. Not all TV monitors have this connector.
